INTRASQUAD MEET
It was good to get to some real competition with the Intrasquad Meet. While there were many impressive marks (four school records, 19 class records), seeing the competitive nature in many of you was more satisfying. Many distance runners actually competed in five events- breaking the rules- in an effort to help their TEAMS. In class scoring (no handicaps points) the Seniors tallied 467 points while the Juniors and Sophomores finished with 438.
Three school records were set in the Girls competition. Rylee Garver cleared 5'00" for a new school and class record in the high jump. Mayra Franco leaped 16'00 to win the long jump in a school and class record. She was also 2nd in the high jump at 4'10 and 100m dash (13.06). Sasha Russell had a great meet setting a school record in the 200m dash running 26.79. She also won the 100m dash (13.03), 100m hurdles (15.79) and 300m hurdles (52.26). Jessica Pauni threw 32'11 to win the shot put and 99'00 to capture the discus title. Ashley Hunzeker threw off of one leg to win the javelin in 78'01. Martha Hammon and Celesta Dunlap cleared 7'00 in the pole vault. Other winners included Lindsey McFarland in the 400 (1:05.20), Morgan Costley in the 800 (2:58.1) and Kiana Tebbs in the 1600 (6:08.04). Kiana also scored in the 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and 8x400 relay. Kelsey Westbroek also scored in five events: 100, 200, 400m dashes and the 300m hurdles and 8x400 relay. Haley Busby scored in the 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and 8x400 relay.
Chris Jackson was busy tieing for first in the 110m hurdles (16.55), and winning the 300 hurdles (43.56), 100m dash (11.78) and 200m dash (24.15) as well as running on the winning 8x400 relay. Hunter Naisbitt set a school record capturing the shot put with a toss of 48'07. He was also 2nd in the discus. Aaron Hill won the discus (149'09) and was 2nd in the shot put. Jamison Nielson tied for 1st in the 110m hurdles (16.55) and was 2nd in the 300m hurdles (45.72). Austin Costley won the 400m dash (52.65) and 800m run (2:15.7) and also ran legs on the winning 4x100 and 8x400 relays. Kyle Kelly won the 1600m run (5:10.84) and was 2nd in the 3200m run. Jake Rossmango won the 3200m run, ran legs on the 4x100 and 8x400 relays, and ran for points in the 1600m run. In a highlight event of the meet, four athletes threw over 139' in the javelin using virtually no approach. Tanner Russell (148'04), Kuyler Thompson (142'10), Dillon Cadwell (140'), and Tyler Siddoway (139'10) put on a good show with most of the TEAM cheering them on. Derek Gann and Nate Tipton had huge PR’s in the event. Others winning their events were Myles Peterson in the long jump (19'04), Stefan Kurzius the high jump (5'06) and Ryan Palmer in the pole vault (9'03).
It was a great meet to see where some of you veterans are at this early in the season and also to have some new athletes get their first taste of Track and Field competition. Thanks to all who competed hard and also to those who helped out to make the meet run smooth. This meet showed we can be a good TEAM, but we have a great deal of hard work to go.
