Track Update - March 22, 2010

Titan Track Bulletin - March 22, 2010

CONGRATS
Track and Field News rankings for Indoor Track have come out. With the performance turned in at Simplot, the Titan Medley Relay TEAM not only set an All-Time Utah Indoor Record, but finished the season ranked 3rd in the nation. Members of that TEAM were Tyler Siddoway, Chris Brown, Chris Jackson and Austin Costley. Not bad!! There was only one other Utahn that made the national rankings- Kelsey Brown of Mtn View in the 800.

VIEWMONT/WEBER TRI MEET
There were some outstanding performances at the tri-meet held at Viewmont Wednesday. In TEAM competiton, the Titan Boys scored 83 points to defeat Weber (62) and Viewmont (33). The Girls tallied 60 points, one less that Weber. Viewmont finished with 49. This was a good meet as we were able to move many people around to help prepare them for the future big meets.
In Girls competition, winners included Jessica Pauni, Shot Put (34'01), Hannah Williams, 800m run (2:24.43), Shelby Cadwell, 200m dash (28.18), and Sasha Russell, 100m hurdles (15.99). Sasha, Shelby, Kelsey Westbroek and Mayra Franco were first in the 4x100m relay in 52.66.
In Boys competition, Chris Jackson won both the 110m hurdles (15.88) and 300m hurdles (42.88). Austin Costley won the 400m dash (51.65) and Preston Williams the 800m run (2:01.3). Hunter Naisbitt placed 1st in the shot put with a school record toss of 50'10. Aaron Hill was right behind throwing 50'08, a 3-foot PR. Aaron won the discus with a toss of 154'04. Kevin Myers captured the high jump clearing 5'08. Chris Brown, Jayden Peterson, Shane Russell and Alex Vanderloo were first in the 4x100m relay. Jamison Nielson, Myles Peterson, Jake Rossmango and Austin Costley were first in the medley relay (3:56.09). Costley, Rossmango, Williams and Brown were first in the 4x400m relay running 3:32.8.
The best performance of the meet was the support and enthusiasm that was shown by the entire TEAM. We need to build on this as the year progresses.

UHSTCA CHAMPIONSHIPS
This meet is always the largest of the year. Over 45 schools were entered. It is also the longest of the year- maybe the longest in history. THANKS to all of you that endured to the end. And a good end it was. Both Boys and Girls finished 2nd in the TEAM title race behind Riverton. The top Boys scores were Riverton 82, Syracuse 74 and Orem 56. The Girls scores were Riverton 110.5, Syracuse 46 and Bingham 40. Many marks were not what had been hoped for, but the cold weather for some events and the length of the meet hindered the performances. But there were still many HUGE efforts by the Titans.
The Lady Titans captured two individual titles. Hannah Williams led from the gun to win the 1600m run in 5:17.21. Lindsey McFarland came from behind to capture the 400m dash in 58.95, a state qualifying mark and just off her school record. Sasha Russell ran great to finish 4th in the 100m hurdles (16.14) and 5th in the 300m hurdles (49.58). Mayra Franco ran 13.07 to place 6th in the 100m dash. She teamed with Kelsey Westbroek, Sasha and Shelby Cadwell to finish 2nd in the 4x100m relay in51.17. Shelby, Sasha, Hannah and Lindsey finished 3rd in the 4x400m relay running 4:17.96.
In Boys action, the throwers really came through scoring 36 points to help the Titans finish 2nd. The conditions were not ideal to say the least. Aaron Hill battled the weather and injuries to win the discus (137'00) and finish 4th in the shot put (47'05). Hunter Naisbitt was 2nd in the shot put in a state qualifying mark of 49'11. He also finished 3rd in the discus (130'00). Tanner Russell’s throw of 158'02 was good enough for 5th place in the javelin as he qualified for State and set a School Record in the process. Tyler Siddoway was right behind in 6th place with a toss of 154'04. Austin Costley led wire-to-wire to easily win the 800m run in a School Record and state qualifying mark of 1:57.44. Preston Williams placed 7th with a time of 2:01.59. Chris Jackson placed 6th in the 110m hurdles in 15.76 and 4th in the 300m hurdles in 41.93. Jake Rossmango’s 4:32.73 was good enough to finish 5th in the 1600m run. In relay action, Jeff Knighton, Tanner Russell, Dillon Cadwell and Weston Atkins ran 3:53.95 to place 6th. In the last event of the meet, run under the lights, Rossmango, Williams, Costley, and Chris Brown ran 3:29.26 to win the 4x400m relay. A fitting climax to a long, successful day. Again, THANKS to all who stuck it out to the end. Most Titans are doing the right things necessary to become the top Track and Field program in Utah.
