Track Update - May 10, 2010

Titan Track Bulletin - May 10, 2010

REGION ONE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Region One Championships hosted by Syracuse Wednesday and Thursday showed that the Titans are continuing to improve. In our first year, we qualified eight individual spots and one relay for state. Last year it was 20 spots and all six relays. 2010 saw the Titans qualify in 28 individual spots and again all six relays. The Boys again finished 2nd behind Davis while the Girls were 4th behind Davis, Viewmont and Weber. Not a bad showing at all.
Hannah Williams showed why USU gave her a great scholarship. She won the 1600m run (5:21.70), 3200m run (11:41.73) and was 3rd in the 800m run (2:23.08). Lindsey McFarland’s closing finish was not quite enough as she finished 2nd in the 400m dash in 58.81. Mayra Franco continued her great improvement this year as she was 2nd in the 100m dash in a school record time of 12.58 and 4th in the 200m dash running 26.85. Sasha Russell ran 15.91 to place 5th in the 100m hurdles and 26.58 to finish 3rd in the 200m dash. Shelby Cadwell (1:01.88) and Rylee Garver (1:0-2.09) finished 6th and 7th in the 400m dash. Mary Pauni was 2nd in the shot put throwing 33'07 and 6th in the discus with a toss of 86'08. Jessica Pauni was 5th in the shot throwing 32'05. Rachelle Holden had a big PR leap of 15'10.75 to place 7th in the long jump. Kelsey Westbroek, Maddie Cook, Shelby and Mayra ran 52.38 to finish 5th in the 4x100m relay. Sasha, Rylee, Shelby and Lindsey finished 4th in the 4x400m relay running 4:12.81. Maddie, Kelsey, Rachelle Holden and Daylyn Johnston finished 7th in the medley relay. While finishing second to Davis again, the boys significantly narrowed the gap from last year. Considering the injuries and setbacks, that was a great accomplishment. Austin Costley had an outstanding meet winning the 1600m run (4:32.27), 3200m run (9:49.65) and finishing 2nd in the 800m run (1:56.99). Chris Jackson tied for 1st in the 110m hurdles (15.32) and was 2nd in the 300m hurdles (40.89). Chris Brown placed 4th in the 200m dash (23.31) and 400m dash (52.16). Tyler Siddoway ran 51.35 to finish 3rd in the 400m dash. Tyrell Pearce had a big PR in the 800m run finishing in 1:59.26 to place 4th and earn a trip to State. Preston Williams was right behind placing 7th in 2:00.06. Jake Rossmango ran 4:35.33 to place 3rd in the 1600m run. An injury prevented him from finishing the 3200 and competing in the 800. Taylor Russell continued his big improvement running into a huge head wind to finish 5th in the 100m dash in 12.00. He ran 11.42 in the trials. The throwers came up big in the field events. Hunter Naisbitt threw 51'08 to win the shot put and 140'04 to place 3rd in the discus. Aaron Hill picked up a couple 2nd places in the shot put (48'06) and discus (153'01). Jordan Peterson had a 5-foot PR in the shot put throwing 45'05 to finish 6th. Kuyler Thompson (151'05) and Derek Gann (140'08) placed 3rd and 7th in the javelin. Jacob Zaugg narrowly missed a trip to state finishing 8th in the pole vault clearing 11'08. In relay action, Alex Vanderloo, Jackson, Russell and Jonah Lewis ran 44.60 to place 3rd in the 4x100. Brown, Costley, Pearce and Siddoway were 3rd in the 4x400m relay running 3:30.85. And in one of the most exciting events of the meet, sophomore Jaxon Hansen ran a 4-second PR 2:03 800 leg in the medley to hold off Davis, Weber and Northridge at the line. Russell, Lewis and Jackson got the baton to Jaxon in good position to set up the great finish.
